Riva del Garda – Ferrata Via dell’Amicizia

We arrived at Riva del Garda yesterday after a 6 hours drive from Zermatt over the Simplon pass road (by the way – epic Swiss scenery again on the pass). The landscape changed a lot once the pass was behind us – summer holiday vacation feeling is on!

We got a spot for the camper van at Camping Al Lago – as the name says directly next to the lake. I chose the campsite due to the fact that the via ferrata dell’Amicizia is close enough to walk from here to the start of the route. The campsite is super crowded, not really our preferred level of privacy but would work for two nights.

There are plenty of via ferratas in the mountains around the lake of Garda. My choice was made upon the good description available in the internet and its medium level of difficulty.

We climbed around 1300 meters in height over plenty (really plenty!) of ladders. The description says that the via ferrata is one of the most popular at the lake.

The views on the lake have been stunning along the ascent and as well the descent. The path was marked perfectly with very little chances to make a wrong turn.

We were almost alone, just another young German couple was hiking with us. Only on the lower descent quite some people hiked up to the chapel Santa Barbara.

Once back in Riva del Garda, we enjoyed Italien ice cream 😊. We are happy that we made this stop as the hike today was really one to remember.

Next stop: Punta Ala
