Eggishorn – Aletsch glacier

Since seeing the Matterhorn was a must do on our Switzerland bucket list and the weather forecast was looking great we left Interlaken on 11th September. As we anyhow drove by the Aletsch glacier region again, we decided to give the Eggishorn via ferrata a try on our way to Täsch. The Eggishorn belongs to the UNCESCO World Heritage Site in the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region and Philipp would not need to leave Switzerland without having seen the largest glacier in the Alps.

We parked the camper van at the parking lot of the Fiesch cable car from where you can reach the Eggishorn in around 30 minutes.
I checked the weather and website before buying the cable car tickets to make sure that the via ferrata is open – and both gave green light.
Arriving at the final cable car station we’ve been told a different story, the signs said that the via ferrata is closed. I had a quick moment of bad mood as I was really looking forward to it, especially as we saw people on the route. But well, in that case we decided to climb to the Eggishorn peak and enjoy the view. We descended to the cable car station to Fiescheralp and were lucky as we got to observe some marmots chilling on rocks.
